Sybase and Bradmark announce Surveillance DB for Sybase ASE
15, simplifying
database management by providing a real-time view of database
activity along with powerful event management and historical
reporting.
DUBLIN,
Calif. — April 3, 2006 — Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY),
a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobile
software, and Bradmark Technologies, Inc., an established provider
of enterprise monitoring and database administration tools,
announced Surveillance DB for Sybase® Adaptive
Server® Enterprise
(ASE) 15, Sybase’s enterprise-class RDBMS. Bradmark’s
Surveillance
DB for Sybase ASE simplifies database management
by providing a real-time view of database activity across the
enterprise, detailed performance metrics and automated tools
for increased performance.
“ We look to Sybase for help in maintaining mission critical data and applications
that are needed to support the planning and operations of 13 digital movie channels
airing more than 750 movies per month, and advanced services such as Starz on
Demand and Vongo,” said Nancy Dreisbach, manager of database administration,
Starz. “It is gratifying to see Bradmark’s commitment to work with
Sybase to protect our investment in a heterogeneous database environment. Having
one set of tools that can address monitoring and performance across our database
environment was a primary reason that Starz chose Bradmark a couple years ago.” Starz
Entertainment Group, a joint Sybase-Bradmark customer, is the largest provider
of premium movie services in the United States and, like many large corporations,
has a multi-vendor database environment that has been built, purchased or inherited
over the years.
Bradmark’s Surveillance DB for Sybase ASE simplifies database management
by providing detailed statistics on session and process activity, locked sessions,
batch contention, file I/O and much more, which can all be viewed simultaneously
for multiple databases. It is shipped with a set of pre-defined rules that
can be easily configured, and can utilize statistics available from Monitor
Server, DBCC or the new MDA monitor views. Surveillance is configured to look
for error conditions or performance issues and send alerts to the DBA team
as well as to initiate scripts to correct problems. The Surveillance central
history database provides a repository from which historical reports can be
produced for after-the-fact performance analysis and troubleshooting, as well
as capacity planning for all monitored databases on the network.
“ As a strategic partner for Sybase, the Bradmark developers have spent
an extensive amount of time listening to both Sybase and its user community on
what they want in database management tools, and have delivered upon those needs,” said
Brad Tashenberg, president and CEO of Bradmark Technologies. “By simplifying
database management for DBAs with solutions like Surveillance DB for ASE, Bradmark
and Sybase are enabling DBAs to focus on more critical tasks while ensuring the
performance of their ASE system.”
Sybase ASE 15 is a high-performance database management system that lowers
both costs and risks, and gives Sybase customers an operational advantage.
Key features include on-disk encryption, smart partitions and new, patented
query processing technology that has demonstrated a significant increase in
performance, as well as enhanced support for unstructured data management.
Sybase ASE 15 meets the increasing demands of large databases and high transaction
volumes, while providing a cost effective database management system.
